Department of Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy

The Department of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprosy, JMCH started functioning from 16th October 2009 with the joining of Dr. Krishna Talukdar as Assistant Professor. The OPD started on the same day in a tiny room with minimum facilities, minimal furniture, and nominal human resources in the old JDS Civil Hospital Building. The department provided OPD, IPD, and emergency services with only one Dermatologist until the next incumbent joined as Registrar on 14/12/2010.

The department is the only Government Dermatological Centre that provides treatment to the needy people of six crucial districts of Upper Assam as well as parts of the neighboring state of Nagaland, which lacks adequate dermatological services. It provides treatment for various dermatological diseases, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and Hansen’s disease (Leprosy). Additionally, the department offers services for various cosmetic problems.

Currently, the department has been shifted to the New Hospital Building, which includes both OPD and indoor facilities. The department is equipped with a Minor OT/Procedure Room and Laser Therapy (EXCIMER & IPL) for various dermatological diseases.
